RSS is Really Simple… Syndication
What is RSS?
RSS (Real Simple Syndication) is one part of web 2.0 technology that has been adopted by many websites. Yahoo, Google, MSN, and many sites have widely implemented RSS — and it is nearly a standard in blogs and news sites.
It is a free service that allows you to stay up to date with many changing sites all from one place.
RSS and RSS Feeds, however, by nature, are techie terms; and “Feeds” is becoming a popular shorthand.
What does RSS mean to the average user?
RSS is somewhat analogous to a “newsletter”. Our website and many others have an RSS feed that anyone can subscribe to. You subscribe anonymously. There is no collection of personal information or email or anything. The news, blog updates, or whatever are then fed to you (a place you arrange – browser, website, personal pages, etc.).
- There is no fee for subscribing to a “feed”
- There is no email spam or postal mail that is sent as part of the subscription.
How it works on our site.
- Depending on your browser, click on one of the links above. (if all you see on the normal link is code, then choose the Easy RSS with feedburner.)
- Add the feed to the service of your choosing (if this is your first feed, we recommend setting up a Google or Yahoo account).
- When we post a new story, your feed will be updated.
You can then view our changes (and those from many other sites and blogs) from one place — such as your yahoo or igoogle homepage(s).
If you no longer what that feed in you page or browser simply delete the element.
RSS is a great way — a Really Simple [Syndication] way — to keep up to day with all our stories.
