Appreciative Inquiry at the University of Virginia

Welcome to the Center for Appreciative Practice at the University of Virginia!

Depiction of the positive core of Thoracic and Cardiovascular surgery.

February is shaping up to be an exciting month for the Center for Appreciative Practice. Two new groups will begin the 4-D process: the Department of Neurology, and The Hand Center. These two groups are the first of several more that will do all-hands inquiries in their areas over the next few months, and we are excited to assist them as they envision and implement their futures.

The next AI Picnic will be in February, date TBD.  These monthly gatherings allow us to learn from each other as we navigate culture change using appreciative inquiry.  For more information on the Appreciative Practice Picnics, click here.

We are now offering monthly Introduction to Appreciative Inquiry workshops designed to help  your team get up and running with AI.  This is also an excellent opportunity to “get your feet wet” and learn a little more about this exciting tool for culture change.  This 2-hour workshop, lead by Center for Appreciative Practice faculty, is an opportunity for work teams to learn more about Appreciative Inquiry and how it might be used in their settings.  Participants will receive an overview of AI at UVA, the principles of AI, and the elements of the 4-D cycle.  They will also have an opportunity to conduct Discovery interviews and to begin mapping their department’s “positive core.”  Participants will also learn about the resources and opportunities available to them through the Center for Appreciative Practice.  Our next workshop will be in mid-February, date TBD.

If you would like to attend one of these introductory workshops, please contact Cathy Keefe-Jankowski.  For more information about this and other workshops, click here.
